Paterson, NJ. – The American Institute for Multicultural Studies (AIMS Institute) presents an interview with Pastor Francisco Joissim of the John 3:16 Christian Mission Church, Assemblies of God of Passaic, New Jersey.
The interview, conducted by Néstor Montilla, Ph.D., is part of 160 videotaped interviews for the AIMS Institute’s multifaceted research project on the contributions of various ethnic groups residing in the United States. The interview took place at Berkeley College in Woodland Park in New Jersey, on the occasion of the AIMS Institute Multicultural Project Awards Ceremony. Pastor Joissim received the Distinguished Award in Religion.
He said, “What I would like to tell people is that my job as a pastor is to preach the gospel, because the gospel of Christ is mandated to preach.”
“In addition to preaching the gospel, we help people in need to get out of their situations, like people we have helped to get out of violence and drug addiction. Today they are useful people who are workers in society.”
At the end of the interview, Pastor Joissim stated the following:
I would like to tell people who are foreigners here in the United States and in any part of the world that we must respect the law. We cannot bring our customs to any country in the world that God has allowed us to move to live in there. We have to accept the law and tradition of that country’s constitution — this has been my experience. For seventeen years, I traveled to the Dominican Republic to study. I could not return to my country. I stayed in the Dominican Republic, where I found an open door. I was able to overcome many obstacles. And I also thank the Dominican schools and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo that allowed me to study there. I thank the Assemblies of God in the Dominican Republic and the seminaries. I have all Dominicans in my heart. Although I was born in Haiti, I had the opportunity to preach to two Dominican presidents; and they listened to the Word of God with great humility. When we change position geographically speaking, when we change country, I want each person to learn the language and respect the law.

La entrevista, conducida por Néstor Montilla, Ph.D., es parte de 160 a entrevistas grabadas en video para el proyecto de investigación multifacético del Instituto AIMS sobre las contribuciones de los diversos grupos étnicos que residen en los Estados Unidos. La entrevista se efectuó en Berkerley College en Woodland Park in New Jersey con motivo de la entrega de premios del Proyecto Multicultural del AIMS Institute. El Pastor Joissim recibió el Premio Ilustre en Religión.
El dijo: “Lo que me gustaría decirle a las personas es que mi trabajo como pastor es predicar el evangelio, porque el evangelio de Cristo es un mandato predicarlo”.
“Ademas de predicar el evangelio, también ayudamos a las personas que tienen necesidades a que salgan de sus situaciones, como gentes que hemos ayudado a salir de la violencia y de la drogadicción. Hoy son personas útiles que son trabajadores en la sociedad”.
Al final de la entrevista, el Pastor Joissim manifestó lo siguiente:
Lo que gustaría decirle a las personas que somos extranjeros aquí en Los Estados Unidos y en cualquier parte del mundo, que lo primero es que hay que respetar la ley. No podemos traer nuestras costumbres a ningún país del mundo que Dios nos ha permitido trasladarnos a vivir. Tenemos que admitir la ley y aceptar la costumbre, la constitución de ese país. Esta ha sido mi experiencia. Por diecisiete años viajé a la República Dominicana a estudiar. No pude regresar a mi país. Me quedé en el país dominicano donde encontré puerta abierta. Pude vencer muchos obstáculos. Y agradezco también a las escuelas dominicanas, la Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo que me brindaron la oportunidad de estudiar. Le agradezco a las Asambleas de Dios en la República Dominicana, a los seminarios. A todos los dominicanos los tengo en mi corazón. Aunque nací en Haiti, tuve la oportunidad de predicarle a dos presidentes dominicanos; y escucharon la Palabra de Dios con mucha humildad. Quisiera que cada persona, cuando cambiamos de posición geográficamente hablando, cuando cambiamos de país, que aprendamos el idioma y a respetar la ley.
