Joseph Gell has been an active and official member of Christian Mission John 3:16 Church in Passaic, NJ, where in addition to serving in the worship ministry, he has served as treasurer for about 15 years.

In his reflection on Patience, based on the Scriptures, Gell answered the following questions:

  • What is patience?
  • What happens in our lives when we have it?
  • How can we exercise it in our daily lives?
  • How does God give it to us?

He quoted and reflected on the following biblical passages from the 1960 King James Version:

Romans 5:3-5 “And not only this, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces patience; and patience is a test; and the proof, hope; and hope does not put shame on us; for the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

Psalm 40:1 “I waited patiently for the Lord, and he bowed down to me, and heard my cry.”

2 Peter 1:5-11 “You also, taking all diligence for this very thing, add virtue to your faith; to virtue, knowledge; knowledge, self-control; self-control, patience; to patience, pity; to piety, brotherly affection; and brotherly affection, love. For if these things are in you, and abound, they will not leave you to be idle or unfruitful as to the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he who does not have these things has very short sight; He is blind, having forgotten the purification of his former sins. Therefore, brethren, all the more be careful to make your vocation and election firm; for by doing these things, you will never fall. For in this way you will be granted ample and generous entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Proverbs 14:29 “He who is slow to anger is great in understanding; But he who is impatient in spirit exalts foolishness.”

Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

Gell shared with the students that during the preparation of the reflection, as he studied and searched the Bible and the verses quoted, he was reproved, corrected, and instructed by The Word. He said humbly, “I must change… from here on out to make use of The Patience that I already have in me… And, sometimes we neglect it, because patience, if we can define it, we already own it by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”

Gell paused for a moment and said, “I must exercise and put into practice the Word before I teach it, because, ‘How can I give a message that I am not living?

The students’ participation included questions, testimonies about how a lack of patience has impacted their lives, and expressions about how Gel’s intervention was one of blessing and deliverance.

Minister Clara Mougette D’Calderone, and Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla were present and participated with comments and questions.

Among the attendees invited to the Institute’s Student Convocation was Pastor Miguel Antonio Ruaño Quipasoca of the International Revelation Ministry in Bogota, Colombia. He was invited by Higinio Sanchez, one of the Institute’s second-year students. Pastor Ruaño Quipasoca took the opportunity to comment: “I have enjoyed the Master’s talk. I think patience is the axis on which the whole fruit of the Holy Spirit moves. The Fruit is the one that fulfills the task that God gives us. Patience is essential for the Fruit to grow and be effective.”

Pastor Ruaño Quipasoca ended his brief remarks by saying, “My question is this: Should we ask for the Fruit, or does it simply come in relation to the Holy Spirit?

Gell answered the question with pleasure by referencing Philippians 2:13 and 1:6 which denote that it is the presence of the Holy Spirit in the believer that results in the manifestation of the Fruit of the Spirit. He emphasized that God in the person of the Holy Spirit is the one who manifests Himself in all His splendor in the believer to change his way of being and affect him. world around you. In the same way he answered each of the questions asked.

After praying to God as a group for a miracle of healing for Brother James Bush, the 17th Student Convocation concluded.
