The Institute for Latino Studies and its Board of Directors invite you to the 17th Annual Conference on Dominican Affairs slated to take place on Sunday, February 12, 2017 from 9am to 4pm at Rutgers University’s Paul Robeson Campus Center located at 350 Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd Newark, NJ 07102.
You will join scholars, diplomats, public officials, interfaith partners, entrepreneurs, artists, community leaders and students from the Tri-State area and beyond, as they discuss the theme of this year’s conference: Claiming Our Legacy in USA / Afirmando Nuestro Legado en USA.
The list of invited guests speakers and panelists includes Irma Nicasio, Ph.D., Professor at Universidad Autonomy de Santo Domingo, Florinda Rojas Executive Director-INM of Instituto Nacional de Migración -INM RD, Ing. Alexis Lantigua from the Administrative Department of the Presidency (El Ministerio Administrativo de la Presidencia de la República Dominicana); and the Honorable Claribel Martinez-Marmolejos, President of the Dominican American National Roundtable (DANR).
Abraham Lincoln once said “The best way to predict your future is to create it.” Considering the meaning of this quote and the past and present socio-economic and political realities of the Dominican and Latino communities in USA, conference discussions, guided by Néstor Montilla, Sr., will center on the universal claim that Legacy is the most valuable gift in building the future.
This year, to continue with its quest towards creating a better future for all, the Institute for Latino Studies has partnered with UNIVISION, Rutgers University, The National Dominican American Council (NDAC), General Consulate of Israel, PSE&G, and several other organizations to make its 17th Annual Conference on Dominican Affairs a rewarding and memorable event.
CODA is the only state-wide conference in the United States where Dominicans and Latino leaders are convened under one roof to discuss critical issues impacting U.S. diverse communities.
