Notable Dominican & Latino Leaders to Welcome Assemblymember Keith Wright at the 15th Annual Conference on Dominican Affairs

Paterson, NJ (Friday, February 6, 2015).— The widely respected and admired New York State Assemblymember Keith L.T. Wright from Harlem confirmed his participation at the 15th Annual New Jersey Conference on Dominican Affairs (CODA).

The Conference is slated to take place on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 8:30am to 4pm at Rutgers School of Law in Newark, NJ, Assemblyman Wright’s Alma Matter.

“We are very pleased to welcome our long-time friend Assemblymember Keith Wright to CODA 2015, the only state-wide conference on Dominican affairs in USA,” said enthusiastically CODA Conference Chair Nestor Montilla, Sr., who is currently Chairman of the Dominican American National Roundtable, the only Washington, DC-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization advocating for the socio-economic and civic advancement of over 1.6 million Dominicans in the United States.

“He is a fighter who has dedicated his entire life to empowering and increasing higher education and employment opportunities for underrepresented communities and at-risk youth. Join us in welcoming him to CODA 2015,” stressed Montilla.

Assemblyman Wright, currently Chairman of the Democratic Party in Manhattan, will be a panelist in CODA’s unprecedented forum about African American and Latino Relations featuring a roster of well-known leaders from both communities. The forum will begin promptly at 10am.

At 1pm, at the luncheon plenary session, following the keynote address by NYC Councilmember Julissa Ferreras, Assemblyman Wright will join Dr. Maria Teresa Montilla, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Union City Mayor Brian Stack and national civil rights leader Martin Perez, Esq., the only Latino member of Rutgers University’s Board of Governors and also President of the Latino Leadership Alliance, to further discuss the prospects of coalition building as a strategy to achieve community empowerment.

Acerca de Keith L.T. Wright

In 1992, Assemblyman Keith L.T. Wright, a lifelong resident of Harlem, was elected to represent the 70th Assembly District. Since then, he has earned a reputation for getting results for his constituents and for improving the quality of life for new Yorkers all across the state. Over the years, he has chaired several standing committees in the Assembly among them, election law, social services, labor and his current chairmanship, of the housing committee. He has proven himself to be a true champion for civil rights and social justice having also sponsored key legislation including bills to: create affordable housing; raise the minimum wage and to strengthen the state’s wage and hour laws to provide essential protections for the hardworking men and women of New York. As chair of the Harlem Community Development Corporation (CDC), Assemblyman Wright has leveraged limited resources to make a substantial, tangible impact on economic development in Harlem, developing and renovating properties to create hundreds of units of affordable housing, grow small businesses, increase services for children and seniors and expand cultural venues.

In his current capacity as Chair of the Housing Committee, Assemblyman Wright has maintained his commitment to ensure the preservation of programs that provide critical services to neighborhoods across the City of New York as well as those geared at empowering and increasing higher education and employment opportunities for underrepresented communities and at-risk youth. He has also authored numerous pieces of legislation to strengthen the rights of tenants against unscrupulous landlords. Assemblyman Wright’s priorities cover a wide variety of issues, among them: a fair minimum wage; the DREAM Act; improving access to historically underrepresented industries for women and minorities; raising the age of criminal responsibility so that 16 and 17 year olds will no longer be inappropriately prosecuted as adults in New York State; and, access to quality education for all children.

A graduate of Rutgers Law School and Tufts University, he credits his parents for teaching him the importance of strong values, commitment to community and defense of civil rights. He is the son of legendary New York State Supreme Court Justice, Hon. Bruce Wright and his mother – Constance Wright – served as a long time educator and former principal in the New York City public school system. Assemblyman Wright lives in Harlem with his family.

Líderes Dominicanos y Latinos Notables, Recibirán con Beneplácito al Asambleísta Keith Wright a la 15ª Conferencia Sobre Asuntos Dominicanos

Paterson, NJ (Viernes, 6 de Febrero, 2015).- El ampliamente respetado y admirado Asambleísta de Harlem, Keith L. T. Wright, confirmó su participación en la 15ava Conferencia Para Asuntos Dominicanos de New Jersey (CODA). La Conferencia se llevará a cabo el domingo, 22 de febrero del 2015 de 8:30am a 4:00pm en Rutgers School of Law – Newark, NJ, de donde se graduó el Asambleísta Wright.

Acerca de Keith L. T. Wright
En el 1992, el Asambleísta Keith L. T. Wright, un residente permanente de Harlem, fue elegido para representar el Distrito Legislativo 70. Desde entonces, ha logrado una muy buena reputación por sus logros a favor de sus constituyentes y por mejorar la calidad de vida de los neoyorquinos en todo el Estado de Nueva York.
